A historic pearl nestling in the heart of the Bourgogne region, in the foothills of the Morvan.

Whether you're a history or art enthusiast, a lover of fine wine or nature, Autun has something for everyone.

By staying at the Tête Noire Logis Hotel, you are in the heart of the Gallo-Roman city of Autun, a Town of Art and History that invites you to discover its glorious past. Your journey back in time will begin in the 1st century BC, the date of its foundation by the Roman Emperor Augustus, of which many remains remain today: the majestic Arroux Gate; the Saint-André Gate; the Temple of Janus; the impressive city walls and the ancient theatre.

Its picturesque cobbled streets and magnificent Gothic buildings, including the Saint-Lazare cathedral, bear witness to its medieval period. Autun was also home to Napoleon Bonaparte, who attended the Collège d'Autun. Later, in 1788, he appointed one of his leading ministers, Talleyrand, Bishop of Autun.

Culture and art have their place in Autun, which boasts a large number of museums, including the Musée Rolin, the Jacques de la Comble Natural History Museum and the National Troupe Children's Museum…

The Autun Military High School, one of six defence schools, is now housed in the former cavalry preparatory school.

With the Morvan Regional Nature Park just a stone's throw away, the green hills, endless vineyards and picturesque forests that surround Autun, lovers of wine, outdoor activities and beautiful walks or cycle rides on the nearby Voie Verte will be delighted.

This natural region of the Autunois benefits from an unspoilt environment that reveals a generous terroir, fine local produce and gastronomic specialities that you can discover as you wander the aisles of the Autun market, which is held twice a week.

Don't hesitate to ask us, we'll be delighted to help you discover Autun at the gateway to the Morvan and the Bourgogne region in general.
